How personal data is collected, used, and protected on this site.
1. Introduction
This policy explains what personal data this website collects, why, how it is used and protected, and the rights you have in relation to it. The words “we”, “us”, and “our” refer to Claire AM Guillon, working under the name Digited Atelier, the owner of hebdomad.digited.net. Digited Hebdomad is an independent scholarly project, run online. This website publishes a research notebook on Fabio Paolini’s Hebdomades and offers a way to contact the author. We are the data controller for the personal data described here. Our details are in Section 14.
2. The law that applies
This site is read in many countries, including the United Kingdom and the European Union. For that reason we follow the General Data Protection Regulation of the European Union (the GDPR), together with its United Kingdom equivalent (the UK GDPR), as the standard for how we handle personal data. Where you are elsewhere, we apply the same standard as a matter of policy, so that everyone receives the same protection.
3. The personal data we collect
We collect only what we need in order to respond to you. Enquiry and contact data: when you write to us, we collect the details you choose to give, which may include your name, your email address, and the content of your message. Correspondence: we keep a record of our exchanges so that we can answer any questions that arise. Subscription to updates and the newsletter is not handled on this site; it is offered on the notebook at notes.digited.net, under the privacy terms published there. Please do not send us another person’s personal data unless we have asked you to.
4. The lawful bases we rely on
We rely on our legitimate interests, such as responding to an enquiry, keeping our records in order, and keeping the site secure, provided these do not override your rights; on your consent, where it applies, which you may withdraw at any time; and on compliance with a legal obligation, where the law requires it.
5. Cookies and analytics
This site is deliberately simple and static. It sets no cookies of its own, uses no third-party web analytics, and places no advertising or tracking cookies on your device. Its typefaces are loaded from Google Fonts; when a page loads, your browser requests the fonts from Google’s servers, which may receive your IP address and the request. If we were to introduce any analytics or non-essential cookies in future, we would update this policy and ask for your consent where the law requires it.
6. How we use your personal data
We use the data we hold in order to respond to enquiries and correspond with you, to keep the site and our records secure, and to meet our legal obligations. We do not use your data for incompatible purposes, and we do not make decisions about you by automated means alone.
7. Sharing your personal data
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it for the marketing purposes of others. We share it only where necessary, with the providers who help us operate, namely our website host and our email provider, who process data on our behalf, under our instructions, and under a data-processing agreement. We also disclose data where the law requires it, to protect someone’s vital interests, or to establish, exercise, or defend a legal claim.
8. Where your data is processed, and international transfers
This site is hosted on servers in France, within the European Union. Some providers we rely on, such as our email provider, may process data outside the United Kingdom and the European Union. Where personal data is transferred to a country without equivalent rules, we rely on the safeguards the law allows, such as the European Union’s standard contractual clauses, together with the provider’s own commitments, so that your data stays protected to the standard described here.
9. Keeping and deleting your data
We keep personal data only for as long as it is needed for the purposes set out here, or for as long as the law requires. Contact data from people we do not go on to correspond with at length is kept for a limited period and then deleted. We may keep data for longer where this is necessary to comply with the law or to protect someone’s vital interests.
10. Your rights
Under the GDPR and the UK GDPR you may ask whether we hold data about you and obtain a copy; ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data; ask us to erase your data in certain circumstances; ask us to restrict or object to certain processing; ask us to transfer your data in a portable form; and, where our use rests on consent, withdraw that consent at any time without affecting what we did before. To exercise any of these, write to privacy [at] digited [dot] net. You may also complain to a data protection authority, such as the Commission Nationale de l’Informatique et des Libertés (the CNIL) in France, or the Information Commissioner’s Office (the ICO) in the United Kingdom, or the authority in your own country. We would, however, be grateful for the chance to put things right first.
11. Children and young people
This site is intended for a general, adult audience of scholars and readers, and it is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.
12. Data security and breaches
We use reasonable organisational and technical measures to protect personal data against loss, misuse, and unauthorised access. In the event of a breach likely to result in a risk to people’s rights, we will act promptly and make any notification the law requires.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time by publishing a new version here. Where a change is significant, we will take reasonable steps to bring it to your attention.
